Donate to the Richland Library Friends and Foundation

Make a great library better.

The Richland Library Friends and Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, governed by a Board of Trustees, whose mission is to support Richland Library by raising awareness and financial support.  The organization was created in 2017 when the efforts of two previously separate library support organizations – the Richland Library Friends and the Richland Library Foundation – were realigned.  The sole purpose of the new organization is to support and enhance the mission of Richland Library, one of the most important cultural and educational resources in our region.

Philanthropic support from our generous donors has enabled Richland Library to establish innovative programs that have a huge impact on the life of our community.  While public funding supports basic library operations, private support helps to ensure a higher level of service both now and in the future.  It’s what makes the difference between a good library and a great library.  


Donations

Gifts to the Richland Library Friends and Foundation are fully tax-deductible and are used to support programs and services not covered by Richland Library’s tax appropriation. While we welcome gifts in any amount, please consider making one that would place you in the Richland Library Literary Circle, a group of individuals and organizations dedicated to ensuring that future generations enjoy the same high level of library programs and services that exist today at Richland Library. Your support at this level ($500 or more) will be recognized in a number of ways, such as inclusion of your name on the “Richland Library Literary Circle Donor Wall” located at Main, assignment of a “personal librarian” to assist you with all your library needs, and receipt of a special library card recognizing you as a Literary Circle level donor.  In addition, donors who give $1,000 or more per year will receive one free use of either the new 75-seat theater located on the second level of Main or the new 250-seat auditorium located on the first level of Main.

Book Sales

The Richland Library Friends and Foundation supports the much-loved community book sales, formerly hosted by the Richland Library Friends.  At the book sales, thousands of gently used books, CDs, DVDs and more – donated by community residents – are sold to raise funds for library programming. The book sales generate approximately $80,000 a year in revenue for the library and are held a minimum of four times a year at the Operations Center located at 130 Lancewood Road off of Bush River Road near Dutch Square Center. 

The quarterly book sales in 2018 will include the Friday night “private” sales (from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.) for current library donors (those who have made donations of $25 or more during the 12 months prior to the sale), followed by the Saturday “public” sales (from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) that are open to everyone.
